Spicauda teleus

Common up to 1350 m. in open habitats. Attracted to bait, spitwad, and flowers.

Similar species: S. tanna has 5 FW apical spots; teleus has 4. S. cindra has the dark central continuous from dorsum to space 7, not broken above the cell as in teleus. See also S. procne.

Spicauda tanna

Uncommon(?) up to 1000 m. Attracted to bait, spitwads, and flowers.

Similar species: S. teleus has 4 FW apical spots; tanna has 5. S. cindra has the dark central continuous from dorsum to space 7, and also has 4 FW apical spots. See also S. procne.

Spicauda cindra

Uncommon(?) at 1150-1500 m., probably lower. Probably restricted to dry valleys, or perhaps overlooked among more common species elsewhere.

Similar species: S. teleus and S. tanna both have the central band VHW broken above the cell. See also S. procne.

Spicauda procne

Fairly common(?) up to 1600 m., possibly only lower in more humid areas; mostly found in disturbed habitats.

Similar species: Most similar to S. simplicius (I have no Cusco records), which has the central band VHW continuous from dorsum to space 7; in procne the outer spot in space 7 is isolated from other dark markings. FW markings overall much duller than other Spicauda, especially on D.
