Marpesia chiron

Uncommon up to 1400 m., probably common in lowlands. Usually found puddling; attracted to bait. I don't know which subspecies occur(s) in Cusco.

Similar species: M. egina (I have no Cusco records) is similar on D but V is entirely white with thin orange lines (similar to M. crethon). Compare also with superficially similar Hypanartia dione dione, although V pattern is completely different.

Similar species: Both sexes similar to M. marcella marcella; I'm not sure how to distinguish females. Male marcella has wider orange band DFW, extending onto DHW apex, and lacks orange in tail.
