Similar species: VHW more strongly patterned than other Pronophila; note especially the pale post-discal area near tornus.

Pronophila epidipnis

Fairly common 1700-2100 m. Attracted to bait. I don't know which subspecies occur(s) in Cusco.

Similar species: I'm not confident separating this species from P. orcus; I think the pattern VHW is more contrasting, with a narrower dark discal band.

Pronophila unifasciata kennethi

Common 1350-2150 m. Puddles; attracted to bait. Found at lower elevations than other Pronophila specices (with overlap).

Similar species: White markings at FW apex (especially on D) much bolder than others.
