Taygetis sylvia

Fairly common up to 1350 m. Usually found inside forest; attracted to bait.

Similar species: No other Taygetis has a similar white post-median line VHW. Harjesia blanda is similar but has a very wavy basal line VHW.

Taygetis chrysogone

Uncommon at 1750 m., probably somewhat higher and lower. Usually found in dark forest; attracted to bait. D rarely visible in the field; the individual shown in the D picture shown was probably dying.

Similar species: V is more brightly marked and richly coloured than T. rufomarginata and T. virgilia.

Uncommon(?) up to 1100 m. Found in forest, including secondary; attracted to bait.

Similar species: Usually plainer on V, but can be very similar to T. virgilia; I don't know how to reliably separate the two species.

Taygetis elegia

Rare(?) at 850 m., probably lower. Found inside forest; attracted to bait.

Similar species: T. echo (I have no Cusco records) has similar pale apex VFW but it has two white submarginal spots VHW much larger than the rest, which are tiny; elegia has all these spots similar in size, and has a more obvious pale marginal area VHW.

Similar species: FW apex less pointed than T. mermeria, which also lacks orange basal spot VHW.

Taygetis mermeria

Fairly common up to 1350 m. Usually found inside dark forest; attracted to bait. Active at dawn and dusk, possibly less so through most of the day. I'm not sure which subspecies occur(s) in Cusco. Markings variable.

Similar species: Most similar to T. larua but lacks HW tails; larua has V more finely speckled/vermiculated generally.
