Similar species: V washed-out looking; recalls C. ctemene strigosa but is shows much more white. D more extensively white than most; C. pieris intermedia and C. corcyra have very different V and DFW apex is patterened differently.

Similar species: I'm not totally confident identifying the male of this species; note the large yellow marginal markings. D has a relatively narrow yellow band and submarginal chevrons. C. pinava lucida seems very similar. Female recalls female C. collina but lacks the pair of white dashes beyond end of cell DFW.

Similar species: Marginal markings V are narrower than most similar species, especially near FW apex; only C. colla punctata has these markings narrower. Most similar is C. pinava which has wider yellow markings at VFW apex and pointed chevrons, not broad triangular spots, in DHW margin.

I believe my photos represent the only Cusco records of this species (it is known from Central and Northern Peru), and the individuals do not look like the geographically closest subspecies (anaranjada, from Ayacucho); it could represent an undescribed subspecies.

Catasticta paucartambo

Rare at 3100-3400 m., probably confined to upper reaches of semi-humid valleys. The individual from Paucartambo shown below was floating in a ditch during rain, and may not have been puddling; I suspect this species does not puddle but probably visits flowers.

Similar species: VHW submarginal 'drumsticks' combined with D pattern is distinctive among species I've encountered. C. vilcabamba (described from remote areas of the Cordillera Vilcabamba, in north/central Cusco) is very similar but has less extensive submarginal and marginal markings DHW.
